Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 90-76 Loss by East Stroudsburg

Goldey-Beacom saw five players score in double figures, but could not overcome a stifling press almost throughout the contest from East Stroudsburg in a 90-76 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the second half needed an early offensive boost and got it with a pair of 3-pointers.  Freshman Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) canned one from beyond the arc to give GBC a 51-49 lead with 16:23 remaining and, after Davon Lee hit a three for ESU, sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) knocked one down with 15:04 to play for a 54-52 margin.

GBC this season has been a stalwart at the foul line and that continued in this game, going 18-for-21 overall.  The home side went on a 5-2 run in just over a minute, all on free throws, with Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) hitting three and fellow junior Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD) adding two for a 71-71 tie with 6:35 to go.

But the Warriors took over from there by scoring the next 15 points.  Lakeem McAliley was outstanding with eight points in helping his side shooting 4-of-6 from the field in that span for an 86-71 lead with 81 seconds left.

Credit also goes to East Stroudsburg's defense, which held Goldey-Beacom to just one field goal in the final 8 1/2 minutes.

Sophomore Jalen Robinson (South Orange, NJ) scored 16 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting, McQueen netted 13, Taylor poured in 11 with Marsh and freshman Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) adding 10 apiece for the Lightning, who shot 51 percent (25-of-49) from the field.

Marsh now is at 1,071 career points, moving into a tie with Corey Cann (1998-2000) for 11th place in team history.  Marsh also grabbed two rebounds and now stands at 535 career, moving into fourth in GBC annals.

McAliley closed with 31 points on 9-of-14 shooting and was 13-for-14 from the line for the Warriors, who shot 53 percent (24-of-45) from the floor and 36-for-41 from the stripe.  Ethan Millirons scored 13 and Nasir Griffin added 10 off the bench.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday visits Jefferson for an 8:00 pm contest.  This follows the 6:00 pm women's game between the same schools.
