Women’s Tennis Clinches Spot in the CACC Tournament With a 5-2 Victory at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom punched its ticket to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament once again by getting solid overall play in a 5-2 triumph at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.
 
It will the Lightning's first trip to the CACC Tournament since 2019 as the squad goes for their first title since 2017.  The semifinals will be Saturday, October 19 at Delcastle Tennis Club in Wilmington and the final is the next day with the champion earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
 
Goldey-Beacom (6-3, 5-3 CACC) opened by taking the doubles point for a seventh time this season.  Senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and junior Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) recorded a 6-2 triumph at second doubles over Rose Huang and Anna Morgillo before junior Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) clinched the point, winning 7-5 at No. 1 doubles over Alycia Veroux and Nicole Hrbkova.
 
Canbaz has been on a roll of late and continued that, notching her fifth straight victory with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at second singles over Hrbkova.  Senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) made it 3-0 by recording a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 singles over Zenia Barretto for the Rams (5-4, 3-4).
 
Lopez has been dominant all season and that remained true with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles against Emily Frost.  Lopez is 9-0 on the campaign at singles in addition to being 7-2 in doubles.
 
Quinonez, last season's CACC Rookie of the Year, continued things for the Lightning with a 7-5, 6-3 win at third singles over Morgillo.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Chestnut Hill for a noon match.
