Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women’s Tennis Continues Its Tear With 5-2 Win at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom made it five victories in its last seven outings and continued its statement season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 5-2 victory at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

The No. 2 doubles team of reigning CACC Rookie of the Year Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) and reigning second team all-league member Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) only is three matches old, but their impact is more than apparent.  They moved to 3-0 on the campaign and none of their matches have gone past nine games, with Saturday's victory being a 6-2 triumph over Romi Meirovich and Claudia Rasilla.

The doubles point was up for grabs before the No. 3 team of junior Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) and senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) slammed the door.  The duo was forced to a tiebreak for a second time this fall and got their second such victory with a 7-6 (10-8) triumph over Elena Arenas Guisasola Arenas and Annabel Snow.

GBC grabbed a 2-0 lead with the rookie resume of Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) gaining more ink with each match.  She moved to 10-0 on the campaign with nine of those victories in straight sets thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Rasilla.

Junior Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) recorded her sixth straight singles win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 over Arenas and Quinonez got a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at third singles over Meirovich.  Corte secured the Lightning's final point with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Snow at sixth singles.

Goldey-Beacom (7-3, 6-3 CACC) now will be either the number two or three seed for next Saturday's CACC semifinal and will play at 1:00 pm vs. either Chestnut Hill (9-3, 6-2) or Wilmington (8-0) at Delcastle Tennis Center.  It will be the Lightning's first trip to the conference tournament since playing in the 2019 CACC final and they are going for their first title since 2017.

Before that, Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday faces Post at 2:00 pm at Delcastle.
