Women’s Tennis Dealt Heartbreaking 4-3 Loss by Wilmington

(boxscore)

Goldey-Beacom once again gave Wilmington a battle, but was dealt a 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Continuing to show massive improvement and looking to avenge its 5-2 loss September 17 to Wilmington, Goldey-Beacom took the doubles point.  Junior Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) got a 6-2 win at first doubles over Siana MacDonald and Ines Oliveira before senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and junior Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) recorded a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles vs. Molly Carlberg and Liza Sylka.

Lopez continued things with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles over Gloria Barcaro, moving the Lightning within 3-2.  Canbaz recorded a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at second singles over MacDonald for a 3-3 tie before the Wildcats (6-0, 6-0 CACC) got the match win.

GBC (5-3, 4-3) still is in good shape in the CACC, holding a two-match lead over Jefferson (1-4) and Post (1-4) for third place.  The top four teams in the league advance to the conference tournament, which begins October 19 at Delcastle.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday is at Jefferson, starting at 2:30 pm.
