Goldey-Beacom women's tennis suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss against Chestnut Hill that came down to the final match.
Senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) and junior Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) started the day strong for the Lightning, defeating Elena Arenas and Anisha Reddy 6-1 in No. 3 doubles. Chestnut Hill won first doubles against senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) and second doubles vs. juniors Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) and Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador), giving the visitors a 1-0 lead before starting singles.
Lopez started off the singles matches by defeating Claudia Rasilla 6-4 and 6-3 in number five singles. Corte also defeated Anisha Reddy 7-6 and 6-3 in number six singles. Canbez then went on to win against Elena Arenas in number two singles, 6-3 and 6-1.
The singles matches were played evenly by both sides, but Chestnut Hill was able to come out victorious after Lillian Bandel narrowly defeated Quinonez in the third set of their match, 7-5.
Goldey-Beacom plays again Saturday against CACC opponent Wilmington (DE) at 12pm at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
