Women’s Tennis Stays On Fire With 7-0 Triumph Over Dominican (NY)

(boxscore)

Goldey-Beacom continued its torrid start and its pace in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 7-0 victory over Dominican (NY) at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC for a fifth time this fall grabbed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.  Senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and reigning CACC Rookie of the Week Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) cruised to a 6-1 victory over Angelina Amelkina and Lia Sarjveladze at first doubles.  Junior Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) and defending CACC Player of the Week Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) got a 6-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles vs. Preeti Koli and Ava O'Brien.

With a forfeit at No. 6 singles, Canbaz got the first singles win on court by leading Amelkina 5-0 in the first set before the latter retired.  Lopez then rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles over Olivia Lopez for a 4-0 margin.

Quinonez notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second singles over Koli and senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles vs. O'Brien.  Sanzo closed things receiving a close match from Sarjveladze at third singles before getting a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10) win.

Goldey-Beacom (5-1, 4-1 CACC) has a one-half match lead over Chestnut Hill (3-1) for second place in the league, pending the latter's Tuesday home match vs. Jefferson.  The top four teams in the six-team league go to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday battles first-place Wilmington (4-0 before Tuesday's match at Post) as part of Homecoming & Lightning Family Weekend.  Match time at Delcastle is at noon.
