Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls 80-32 at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom ran into one of the top schools from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and was handed an 80-32 loss by Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

The first half saw the Lightning show tough play early, before giving up a 19-6 run that gave the Tigers a 27-13 lead with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter.  Kara Meredith scored nine points in that time with Claire Dougherty adding four.

Goldey-Beacom traditionally has played Holy Family tough and especially in Torresdale, but the home side on this night used the early momentum for a 35-18 halftime lead.  Meredith poured in 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds and four 3-pointers.  Dougherty added eight points on 4-of-8 shooting.

The Lightning continued to battle throughout with a lineup that features seven newcomers and two seniors.  They were coming off a tough 56-55 loss Saturday to Felician and looked to keep the momentum going into the second half of their league schedule.

Senior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) scored seven points and sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE), coming off her fourth appearance on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, added six.  Junior Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) and freshman Farrah White (Wilmington, DE) hauled in seven rebounds apiece for GBC (2-19, 1-8 CACC).

Meredith was incredible, scoring 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting with 10 rebounds and seven 3-pointers for the Tigers (17-5, 7-3).  Dougherty netted 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting with Jessica Riepe adding 12 points and four 3-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Dominican (NY) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's 3:00 pm contest.
