Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Dealt 84-61 Loss by Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom returned to a familiar location in the Joseph West Jones Center and was handed an 84-61 loss by Chestnut Hill in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play to open the new year in Wilmington, DE.

A strong first quarter from the Lightning saw them trailing 18-10 after one quarter, and they carried the momentum into the second quarter and opened with an 8-3 run to trail 21-18.

However, in the final three minutes of the first half, the tough play of Chestnut Hill became apparent through a 13-1 run to close the half.

Not phased by the closing of the first half, the Lightning opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE).

Despite the Lightning's best play, the gap between the two teams grew to just out of reach for Goldey-Beacom as it grew to 58-37 after three quarters.

With 6:22 remaining, freshman Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) drained a 3-pointer followed closely by two free-throws to bring the Lightning to trail 68-50.

The final 4:14 saw both teams trading baskets as the triumph of Chestnut Hill was undeniable, closing the game 84-61.

Yoder closed with 13 points, senior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) notched 11 points and six rebounds with junior Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) adding 10 points for GBC (1-13, 0-3 CACC).

Caleigh Edwards finished with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting, six rebounds and four assists, Bridie McCann had 14 points and seven rebounds, Avery White scored 13 points and Lindsey Lane added 12 and seven rebounds for Chestnut Hill (6-5, 2-1).

Goldey-Beacom travels to Bloomfield, NJ on Saturday as it continues conference play against Bloomfield at 1:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's side, which tips off at 3:00 pm.
