Men’s Basketball’s Conference Winning Streak Ends With 99-78 Loss to Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom looked for its fifth straight league win to open the campaign, but was undone by a tough first half in a 99-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Jefferson at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Rams (9-7, 3-3 CACC) in the opening half dominated play on both sides of the floor.  They opened a 46-26 lead by shooting 60 percent (18-of-30) from the floor, 7-of-15 from 3-point range and holding the Lightning (9-8, 4-1) to just 33 percent (10-of-30) from the field.

Ahmed Barba-Bey scored 17 points in the half on 6-of-10 shooting and was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.  Antonin Kemkeng netted 11 points with Erik Timko adding 10.

For the game, senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) continued to be a force with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting.  The first team All-CACC pick from 2022 vaulted into a tie for sixth place on the team's career scoring list, now with 1,133 points to match Nate Lewis (2002-06).

Sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) and junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) poured in 13 points apiece with sophomore Caleb Bates (Detroit, MI) adding 10.

Timko netted 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting with five 3-pointers, Barba-Bey scored 24 points with Kemkeng getting 20 and 11 rebounds for the Rams, who shot 58 percent (38-of-66) from the field with 15 three-pointers.
