Men’s Basketball’s Winning Streak Ends With 120-92 Loss at No. 13 East Stroudsburg

Goldey-Beacom looked to gain a big upset at 13th-ranked East Stroudsburg, but saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 120-92 loss in East Stroudsburg, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the first nine minutes more than hung around with its counterparts from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, playing to a 20-20 tie by shooting 45 percent (9-of-20) from the field and inducing four turnovers.  Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) scored five points with senior Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) and sophomore Caleb Bates (Detroit, MI) adding four apiece.

GBC (9-6) during its winning streak heavily relied on its offense, but it was East Stroudsburg's offense tonight that was on display.  The Warriors exploded with a 27-9 run in just under six minutes to open a 47-29 lead with 5:24 remaining.  Cam Young scored nine points and Justin Paz added six to help ESU shoot 11-of-13 from the floor and hold GBC to 3-of-10.

East Stroudsburg (12-1) closed the half shooting 62 percent (26-of-42) from the floor and 10-of-16 from three-point range in opening a 65-45 halftime lead.  Young and Jaelen McGlone netted 12 points apiece with Shamir Johnson adding 10.

The Warriors continued their barrage in the second half by shooting 53 percent (21-of-40) from the field.

One game after getting seven players to score in double figures Saturday at Bloomfield, GBC tonight saw five attain that mark.  Bates had 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting with 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) netted 18 points, Centeno scored 14 with senior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) and sophomore Omari Banks (Middletown, DE) adding 10 apiece.

Derry moved into 10th place in school history with 1,099 career points.

Lakeem McAliley scored 17 points, McGlone poured in 16, Young netted 14, Paz put home 11 and Johnson added 10 for the Warriors, who notched their seventh consecutive win.

In addition to being nationally ranked, East Stroudsburg is second in the Atlantic Region.  Both are according to D2CSC.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Queens (NY) for a 1:00 pm contest in Flushing, NY.
