Women’s Tennis Opens Its Season With 6-1 Triumph Over Molloy

Goldey-Beacom notched straight-set victories in all six of its singles matches in posting a 6-1 season-opening triumph over Molloy at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Lightning saw their first-doubles squad of junior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and sophomore Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkey) get a 6-2 triumph over Noor Goyvaerts and Alice Fartushynska.

GBC (1-0) took over from there, beginning with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles from junior Macy Hendin-Walker (Ipswich, England) over Jill Cafaro. The Lightning then took the lead for good at fifth singles with junior Lisa-Marie Roussignol (Quimper, France) notching a 6-1, 6-1 win in her Navy Blue and Vegas Gold debut over Maggie Kutner.

Sophomore Asli Kunduk (Izmir, Turkey) then got a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Isabella Fortaleza before Canbaz amassed a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles vs. Goyvaerts. Sophomore Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) saw Fartushynska retire in a 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 victory at fourth singles before Mova finished things with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Camilla Caballero Abreu.

Molloy fell to 0-2.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday plays its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener at home against Post, beginning at noon.
