Goldey-Beacom College was proud to hold its 2023 Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony that continued the tradition of presenting many awards to deserving student-athletes in both athletics and academics.
Â
The ceremony in past years was combined with the department's Hall of Fame Ceremony and was held at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark. For the second straight year, the College's Events Center brought everything back on campus and allowed a separate event that was all about the student-athletes.
Â
"Our student-athletes had another tremendous year in 2022-23," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. Â "This is a day when we get to celebrate them and they get to celebrate each other for all of their hard work, and the room was electric from start to finish."
Â
The day's honors included the following awards:
Â
- Scholar Athlete Awards for the highest grade point average for each sport
- Chi Alpha Sigma pins for inductees of the National Student-Athlete Honors Society
- Student-Athlete stoles for graduating seniors
- President's Award, which cites leadership and sportsmanship
- Brian Conley Comeback Player of the Year Award presented by NovaCare
- Male and Female Rookies of the Year
- Male and Female Most Valuable Players
Â
"We're very proud of our student-athletes and all of their accomplishments on the playing surface, in the classroom and in the community – it was certainly a year to remember." Benoit added.  "It was filled with CACC champs in Golf and Javelin (with Baseball still in the running); a CACC Player of the Year in Women's Soccer; a single-season win record for Baseball; the most wins in a single season for Softball since 1998; the highest Men's Basketball team GPA since 2017; the best CACC Championship finish in history for Women's Track & Field; and too many other team and individual feats to track.  Lightning struck in 2022-23, and it struck often."
