Men's and Women's Track & Field Competes Strong to Conclude CACC Championship

Goldey-Beacom closed the 2023 season in style and with strong performances, seeing the women's side securing fifth place and the men placing seventh in Lakewood, NJ.
 
The women's side saw the best finish in school history after scoring 45 points, along with a number of school records. Highlights of the day included second place and third place finishes from senior Alexis Harrison in the shot put and discus with school record distances of 12.27m and 38.10m. Sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) also had a strong performance, securing third place in the high jump with a school record of 1.52m.
 
Freshman Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) placed 11th in the shot put with 10.14m and junior Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE) threw 9.51m to close 14th. In the discus throw, Cornish threw 27.32m to place 11th.
 
On the track, sophomore Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) ran 5:28.85 in the 1500m to place 14th. In the 5000m, sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) placed 11th with a time of 21:48.74. Fellow sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE), competing in the 400m hurdles, ran 1:10.88 to close sixth and finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:11.36.
 
The 4x100m relay team, consisting of seniors Asia Hollis (Rising Sun, MD) and Kayla Cook (Hebron, MD), sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ), and Boyce, placed fifth with a time of 52.59. Chardon, Cool, sophomore Haley Schofield and Smith placed seventh in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:45.12.
 
For the men, sophomore A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) ran a strong 100m race, claiming sixth place with a time of 11.04. Buffaloe also placed sixth in the 200m with a school record time of 22.38.  
 
Junior Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) ran 2:00.83 in the 800m to close seventh and placed eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:10.69, just behind fellow junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA), who had placed seventh with a time of 4:07.85. Landvik-Larsen also led the Lightning runners in the 5000m, coming in 10th with a time of 16:48.06. Sophomore Colin Kay (Lewes, DE) placed 13th with a time of 17:05.42 and junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) rounded out the runners with a time of 18:16.41 to close 16th.
 
Crossen ran a time of 11:07.42 in the 3000m steeplechase to place seventh, just behind sophomore Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE), who ran 10:53.06 to close fifth.
 
The 4x100m relay team, including juniors Emmanuel Otsyina (Aston, PA) and Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE), freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) and Buffaloe placed sixth with a time of 43.58. Sophomore Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE), Scherer, Reid and Otsyina made up the 4x400m team and placed seventh with a time of 3:27.84.
 
Freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) placed fifth and ninth in the discus and shot put respectively after throwing distances of 37.72m and 11.42m.
 
The women took fifth place overall with 45 points, and the men placed seventh with 35 points.
