Men's and Women's Track & Field Compete at Golden Ram Invitational

Goldey-Beacom displayed a solid showing at the Golden Ram Invitational meet on Saturday in West Chester, PA, with the men's team placing seventh and the women finishing eighth.
 
In the men's events, sophomore A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) had another solid outing, finishing seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 11.30 and eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.12. Freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) closed the 200 meters in a time of 23.84 to place 16th and junior Emmanuel Otsyina (Aston, PA) ran 24.09 to place 19th.
 
Otysina and Reid, also competing in the 400 meters, placed 11th and 16th respectively in times of 52.88 and 54.95. Sophomore Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) split his teammates, placing 12th running a time of 53.10. Ali-Bentley, the sole Lightning runner in the 400 meter hurdles, secured second with a time of 57.92.
 
Junior Tymir Ash-Shaheed (Middletown, DE) in the 800 meters and finished 22nd with a time of 2:14.40. In the 1500 meters, junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) finished in the top 10, running 4:15.72 to place eighth. The 5000 meters saw sophomore Colin Kay (Lewes, DE) and junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) placing sixth and seventh with times of 16:29.71 and 16:37.55. Sophomore Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE) followed in 11th with a time of 17:38.28.
 
Junior DJ Farren (Lewes, DE) and Ash-Shaheed closed the 3000 meter steeplechase with times of 11:58.39 and 12:10.55 to place sixth and seventh. To round out the track events, the 4x400 meter relay saw a fifth place finish with a time of 3:44.49.
 
Freshman Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) opened the field events in the high jump, jumping 1.72m to place joint-seventh. Freshman Xachary Tucker (Middletown, DE) saw a best jump of 4.93m in the long jump to finish ninth.
 
In the discus throw, sophomore Richard Mesa (Newark, DE) placed 10th with a throw of 20.31m. Mesa placed 19th in the hammer throw with 16.68m and threw 30.60m in the javelin to finish sixth.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) began the track events with a sixth place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 12.79. Fellow sophomore Ellonah Lewis (North East, MD) placed 21st with a time of 13.59, while senior Asia Hollis (Rising Sun, MD) ran 13.72 to finish in 25th place.
 
Lewis in the 200 meters saw a 24th place finish with a time of 28.20. In the 400 meters, sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) ran a time of 1:04.83 to place 12th. Sophomore Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) led the Lightning runners in the 800 meters, closing 19th with a time of 2:32.44, while Smith placed 25th in a time of 2:35.28. Sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) claimed ninth place in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:23.85 to close the track events.
 
In the field events, sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) secured joint-fourth with a best jump of 1.45m, just .02m behind first place. Senior Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE) took ninth in the shot put with a throw of 10.47m, while freshman Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) threw 9.62m to place 14th. Cornish in the hammer throw threw a new school-record 29.57m to place sixth, while McGowan finished 12th with a throw of 18.77m.
 
Goldey-Beacom head back to West Chester, PA on Saturday to compete in the Bill Butler Invitational, with events beginning at 10:30 am.
