Men's and Women's Track & Field See New School Records at Widener Invitational

Goldey-Beacom competed in day two of the Widener Invitational, with high level performances from both the men's and women's teams to set new school records.
 
In the men's track events, sophomore A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) continues to lead the way with strong outings, closing with two top ten finishes in the 100m and 200m. In the 200m, Buffaloe secured fifth place with a time of 22.09 and ran 11.13 to place 10th in the 100m.
 
Junior Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE) also competed in the 100m, placing 31st with a time of 11.58. In the 200m, Proctor closed in 35th with a time of 23.12, junior Emmanuel Otsyina (Aston, PA) ran 23.17 to place just behind in 37th place, and freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) placed 45th with a time of 23.62.
 
Otsyina, in the 400m, led the Lightning runners with a time of 50.68 to place 21st. Sophomore Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) placed 23rd with a time of 50.78 and Reid ran 52.30 to close 36th. In the 800m, juniors Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) and Tymir Ash-Shaheed (Middletown, DE) placed 42nd and 75th respectively with times of 1:59.78 and 2:10.61.
 
Junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) crushed the school record in the 1500m for a second time this season, running 4:07.66 to place 29th. Scherer placed 35th with a time of 4:12.18, while junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) and Ash-Shaheed ran 4:29.58 and 4:36.52 to close 54th and 58th.
 
Sophomore Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE) had an impressive showing in the 3000m steeplechase, running 10:40.41 to place 17th.
 
In the field events, freshman Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) claimed sixth place in the high jump with 1.82m, just shy of fifth place by .05 meters. Fellow freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, DE) placed 21st in the hammer throw with a best throw of 35.50m. Sophomore Richard Mesa rounded out the men's events with a 21st place finish in the javelin with a best throw of 32.70. 
 
In the women's events, senior Asia Hollis (Rising Sun, MD) and sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) placed 31st and 33rd with times of 13.61 and 13.72. Sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) closed 20th in the 200m with a time of 26.68.
 
Sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) set a new school record of 1:10.81 in the 400m hurdles to close 16th. The 800m saw sophomore Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) place 68th with a time of 2:36.68. Cool was another Lightning runner to set a school record, with a time of 5:17.89 in the 1500m to close 28th. Fellow sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) placed 34th with a time of 5:41.00.
 
In the field events, Chardon claimed second place in the javelin with a best throw of 40.05m, missing out on first by .72m. Boyce rounded out all events with a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a best jump of 1.51m.
 
Goldey-Beacom makes the short trip to Newark, DE on Friday to compete in the Delaware Invitational, with events beginning at 10:45am. This is the final meet before heading to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
