Men's and Women's Track & Field Close Day One at Widener Invitational

Men's and Women's Track & Field competed in a hand-full of events in Chester, PA to close out day one of the Widener Invitational.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) led all Lightning runners in the 5000m with a 37th place finish with a time of 21:03.05. Fellow sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) finished just behind in 21:22.82 in 39th place.
 
 In the fielding events, junior Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE) finished the discus throw in 16th place finish with a best throw of 31.66m. Freshman Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) and junior Damia White (Bridgeton, NJ) placed 26th and 27th place respectively with throws of 26.64m and 26.49m.
 
In the shot put, McGowan led all Lightning athletes with 10.34m to close 19th. Sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) followed, throwing 10.14m to finish 21st, while Cornish placed 32nd with 9.39m. White closed in 36th place with 8.75m.
 
In the men's field events, freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) saw a tenth-place finish in the discus throw with 39.59m and placed 29th in the shot put with 10.89m. Sophomore Richard Mesa (Newark, DE) closed 44th in the shot put with 9.08m.

On the track, junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) placed 69th in the 5000m with 16:13.20, while fellow junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) ran 17:03.45 to place 94th. 
 
Goldey-Beacom concludes the meet tomorrow, Saturday, with events beginning at 9am.
