Baseball Splits Two at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom's venture to Upstate New York saw it gain a 10-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Dominican (NY) after it was handed a 9-4 loss in the opener in Pomona, NY.

Game two saw the Lightning's bats come alive.  Junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) lined an RBI double in the first inning before the visitors added three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.  Senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) lifted a sacrifice fly, Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) crossed home on an error and fellow junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) lined an RBI single.

Johnson added an RBI double in the third and freshman Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) followed with a run-scoring single to make it 6-0.

The Chargers got two back in the third before the Lightning notched three in the fourth for a 9-2 contest.  Junior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) stroked an RBI single and sophomore Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) added a two-run single.

Kampes hit a long home run in the fifth to make it 10-2.  It was his 11th career home run, moving him into a tie for fifth place in team history.  Kampes' 63 career RBI have him sixth in team annals.

Kampes, Walker, DiSabatino and sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) all had two hits for the Lightning.  Sicklerville, NJ senior Anthony DiMartino (3-1) pitched great over six innings, striking out five and allowing just two runs and six hits.

DiMartino's 151 career strikeouts moves him into a tie with Mitch Guerrieri (2018-22) for most in program history.  His 12th career victory puts him in sole possession of third place in team annals.

Goldey-Beacom (19-10, 5-2 CACC) in game one rallied from 4-1 down after three innings for a 4-4 tie.  Kolmansberger had an RBI single in the fourth and an additional run crossed home on an error to make it 4-3.  Miller in the fifth reached on an error that allowed Walker to score for the deadlock.

But the Chargers (4-24, 1-7) plated five runs in the last of the sixth for the final.  Jason Sosa-Riva lined an RBI single, Tyler Richman had a bases-loaded walk, Joseph Coppola scored on a throwing error and Christian Fils-Aime stroked a two-run double.

Game one did see the end of Walker's school-record hitting streak, which reached an incredible 26 games.  His two hits in game two now give him a hit in 45 of his last 47 contests.

Kampes continued his outstanding play with two hits and an RBI, giving him a 13-game hitting streak that includes his game-two output.

Anthony Leak struck out eight over five innings for Dominican and Andrew Wilson added three strikeouts over the last two frames for the win.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits Lincoln (PA) for a 2:00 pm contest.
