Softball Battles to a Split Against Georgian Court

Going against one of top three teams records wise in Georgian Court, Goldey-Beacom held its own to gain a 6-5, 10-inning triumph in game two after falling 16-1 in game one in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Game two began with a three-run homer from Kaitlyn Stufft in the first inning put Georgian Court ahead early.

The Lightning tied the score right away, with RBI singles from junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) and freshman Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA), and an error that was assisted by hits from senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) and freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD).

The score remained until the fourth inning when the Lightning took the lead. Makin continued her streak, firing a single to third base and forcing a throwing error to allow a score from senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE).

Georgian Court leveled the score at 4-4 in the sixth.

Forced into extra innings, the Lightning battled to the 10th. Georgian Court took back the lead off a single from Barraza, but Setting showed experience at the plate, connecting for an RBI-single to make the score 5-5.

The winning run came from a walk from junior Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) to give the Lightning a 6-5 win.

Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Friel closed with two hits and one RBI apiece, with Davis adding two hits. Sophomore Morgan McLane (7-7) pitched all 10 innings, striking out three that included a huge strikeout of Stufft with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Taylor Lipkins and Jayda Jones had two hits each.

The sole run for the Lightning in game one came in the first inning from a sacrifice fly from senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) to make the score 3-1.

Georgian Court went on to score another run in the second, four in the third, seven in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game via the run rule at 16-1.

Lowry had two hits and Makin had one for GBC (29-21, 8-12 CACC).

Jones had two hits and four RBI and Jadalynn Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI, with three other players ending with two hits and one RBI for Georgian Court (27-15, 11-5).
