Track & Field Impresses at Bill Butler Invitational

Goldey-Beacom returned to West Chester, PA for a second consecutive week to compete in the Bill Butler Invitational, with the women placing ninth and the men 14th.
 
In the women's fielding events, senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) claimed first place in the discus throw, beating out second place by 1.95 meters. In the shot put, Harrison placed sixth with a throw of 11.37m. Another first-place finish came from sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) in the javelin, who topped all throwers with 36.60m, 2.25 meters further than second place.
 
Junior Alexia Cornish (Milford, DE) placed 18th in the discus with 26.17m and took 23rd in the hammer throw with 27.89m. Junior Damia White (Bridgeton, NJ) threw 21.70m in the hammer throw for a 29th place finish, while freshman Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) placed 18th in the shot put with 9.94m. In the high jump, sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) placed joint fourth with 1.51m.
 
In the track events, Chardon ran 13.01 in the 100m to place tenth, and sophomore Ellonah Lewis (North East, MD) placed 29th with a time of 13.52. In the 800m, sophomore Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) placed 21st with a time of 2:30.97, and fellow sophomore Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) placed 31st, with a time of 2:34.51.
 
Sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE), as the sole Lightning runner in the 1500m, ran 5:19.17 to place 27th and placed 48th in the 800m with a time of 2:47.14 to close out track events.
 
In the men's track events, sophomore A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) continues strong performances with a  fourth-place finish in the 100m with a time of 11.22. Junior Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE) placed 33rd with a time of 11.66, while freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) ran 11.95 to place 37th.
 
In the 400m, junior Emmanuel Otsyina (Aston, PA) ran 51.29 to place 13th, with Reid placing 28th with a time of 53.20. Sophomore Colin Kay (Lewes, DE) saw a time of 2:09.53 to place 37th and junior Tymir Ash-Shaheed (Middletown, DE) followed closely behind in 39th place with a time of 2:13.63.
 
Junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) led the Lightning runners in the 1500m with a time of 4:10.35 for a 17th place finish. Junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) finished in 34th place with a time of 4:29.28 and Ash-Shaheed ran 4:50.26 to finish 40th.
 
In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE), Kay, and junior DJ Farren (Lewes, DE) placed eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively with times of 10:44.33, 10:46.00, and 12:03.25 to close out track events.
 
In the fielding events, freshman Jayvon Laguerre (Milford, DE) placed eighth in the high jump with 1.80m. Fellow freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) threw 12.30m in the shot put to place ninth and secured sixth for a top-ten finish in the discus with a best throw of 37.85m.
 
Goldey-Beacom head to Chester, PA on Friday and Saturday to compete at the Widener Invitational. Events begin at 3:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am on Saturday.
