Softball Gains a Two-Game Sweep Over Chestnut Hill on Senior Day



Goldey-Beacom rolled to a two-game sweep, 4-0 and 7-3, over Chestnut Hill in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on senior day at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning opened the scoring of game one from Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), who fired a hit into right field for an in the park home run in the first inning.
 
The sixth inning saw the Lightning tally three runs, with the first coming off a single-RBI from junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) to bring in Lowry, who had reach base on a triple. A triple from freshman Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) drove in freshman pinch runner Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ), and fellow freshman Autumn Simpson drive in Scott with a grounded out play to the pitcher.
 
Scott went 3-for-3 with one RBI, Lowry closed with two hits and one RBI, and Makin had one hit and one RBI.
 
Clayton, DE sophomore Morgan McLane (5-6) pitched a complete game, striking out 11 for the win. With this win, McLane tallied her 15th career win to move up to tied for ninth in school history.
 
Mianna Lopez Del Haro and Samantha Toro each had two hits.
 
Chestnut Hill opened the scoring of game two with a run off a sacrifice bunt from Steph Tonuci, but the Lightning tied it up right away with an RBI-single from Makin.
 
The Lightning rallied for three runs in the second with hits from junior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ), senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE), Lowry and Makin for a 5-1 lead.
 
Two final runs came from a sacrifice fly from Davis to drive home Setting and Johnson, who reached on an error by the Griffins.
 
Skyler Cunningham and Toro scored two more runs for Chestnut Hill, but the Lightning would hole for a final 7-3 win.
 
Makin had two hits and two RBI, while Lowry finished with two hits and one RBI. Davis closed with one hit and three RBI. Senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) claimed her third win of the season, striking out three over five innings for GBC (26-18, 5-9 CACC). McLane came in and secured the save in 1.2 innings. With this save, McLane leads school history with five saves (please note that records are only available since 2008).
 
Lopez Del Haro had two hits and one RBI, with Cunningham adding two hits for Chestnut Hill (5-30, 2-10 CACC).
 
The seniors that were honored on senior day were Makin, Jordan, Carly Setting (Newark, DE), and Jazlee Rojas (Hockessin, DE).
 
Goldey-Beacom travels to Staten Island, NY on Saturday for a 12:00 pm doubleheader against Alliance.
