Track & Field Gains Qualifiers at Millersville Metrics

Strong performances from both Men's and Women's Track & Field saw 11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference qualifiers and two men's school records at the Millersville Metrics in Millersville, PA.
 
The meet opened on Friday with the Men's and Women's 10,000-meter run. On the men's side, junior Chris Crossen (Magnolia, DE) led the Lightning, closing fifth in a time of 34:47.09. Freshman Colin Kay (Lewes, DE) ran 36:15.38 to place seventh, and junior DJ Farren (Lewes, DE) placed ninth with a time of 38:38.47. On the women's side, sophomore Maddie Minnick (Wilmington, DE) closed 13th in a time of 45:22.47.
 
Saturday saw freshman Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) set a new school record in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 34.84m to place 23rd. Also competing in the hammer throw, sophomore Richard Mesa (Newark, DE) closed 37th with a distance of 18.67m. In the shot put, Lacroix threw a best distance of 10.66m to place 28th and Mesa placed 46th with 8.67m. Sole Lightning competitor in the javelin throw, Mesa closed 34th with a distance of 27.72m.
 
In the high jump, sophomore Derek Ongeri (Smyrna, DE) placed ninth with a height 1.83m, while freshman Xachary Tucker (Middletown, DE) in the long jump closed 23rd with 5.30m.
 
In the track events, sophomore A'mair Buffaloe (Prospect Park, NJ) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a new school record of 10.83. Junior Zach Landvik-Larsen (Stroudsburg, PA) continued his impressive outings, closing the 5000m run in fifth place with a time of 16:04.00. In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) placed seventh, just .43 second behind sixth with a time of 58.65.
 
Sophomore York Miles (Johannesburg, South Africa) closed the 400-meter dash in 36th place with a time of 55.84. Junior Kyle Scherer (Wilmington, DE) led the Lightning in the 800m run, running a time of 2:00.11 to finish in fourth place, while fellow junior Tymir Ash-Shaheed (Middletown, DE) closed in 37th place with a time of 2:15.82. Ash-Shaheed in the 1500m run closed in 36th place with a time of 4:49.33.
 
Sophomore Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE) and Crossen placed eighth and 11th respectively in the 3000-meter steeplechase with times of 10:53.12 and 10:59.62. The 4x100 meter relay team of Ali-Bentley, Buffaloe, junior Khalil Proctor (Newark, DE), and freshman Kedar Reid (Bear, DE) placed third with a time of 43.91 to close events.
 
On the women's side in the fielding events, sophomore Savannah Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) placed 12th with a best jump of 1.40m. Junior Damia White (Bridgeton, NJ) placed 32nd in the discus throw with a best of 23.66m and threw 7.99m in the shot put to close 35th. The javelin throw saw sophomore Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) continue to impress, placing joint second with a throw of 40.23m.
 
In the track events, sophomore Ellonah Lewis (North East, MD) placed 28th in the 200m dash with a time of 28.18. In the 1500m, Minnick and junior Madelynn Cool (Smyrna, DE) closed in 34th and 47th place with times of 5:32.95 and 5:55.55. Also competing in the 5000m run, Cool ran a time of 22:09.56 to place 13th.
 
In the 4x100-meter, Boyce, Chardon, and seniors Kayla Cook (Hebron, MD) and Asia Hollis (Rising Sun, MD) placed seventh with a time of 52.56 to close events.
 
Goldey-Beacom travel to West Chester, PA on Saturday to compete in the Golden Ram Invitational, with events beginning at 10:30am.
