Softball Battles to a Split Against Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom battled to a 4-2 win in game two against Caldwell, after falling 5-1 in game one at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) led the way from the mound in game two, striking out 11 over seven innings, and allowing just five hits, to claim her eighth win of the season.

Goldey-Beacom took an early 1-0 lead with an RBI-double from junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) to drive in sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ), who had reached via a single.

But Caldwell took the lead in the third off a two-RBI home run from Courtney Grundhauser.

The Lightning fired back-to-back singles from senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) and Lowry to place runners on base and light the spark. A sacrifice bunt from senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) moved the runners forward before senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) connected for a two-RBI double to take a 3-2 lead.

The win was secured in the fifth inning with a sacrifice bunt from Jordan to bring in Lowry, who narrowly missed the tag at home plate to give the Lightning a 4-2 win.

Lowry went 3-for-3, while Jordan had one hit and three RBI. Davis, Makin and Setting all had one hit.

Grundhauser had two hits and two RBI.

Game one saw Goldey-Beacom trail 5-0 in the third inning off hits from Emma Cooney, Ashleigh Tavaska, and Delaney Ridgell for Caldwell.

The sole Lightning run came in the fourth from Lowry, who scored on a wild pitch.

Lowry, Davis and Makin had one hit apiece for GBC (23-11, 3-3 CACC).

Tavaska and Ridgell had two hits and two RBI each for Caldwell (13-8, 6-1).
