Softball Faces a Setback Against Felician

Goldey-Beacom faced a tough setback by Felician by two losses, 6-0 and 7-5, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Rising Sun freshman Alesia Doctor (8-6) was a force from the mound once again, pitching eight scoreless innings and allowing just five hits.

Despite the fight from the Lightning, Felician rallied for six nine inning runs to claim the win.

Senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) and junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) had one hit each.

Six players tallied hits for Felician, with an RBI apiece from Kathryn Steinmetz and Johanna Rivera.

Game two saw Felician take an early 5-1 lead over the first two innings, with the Lightning's run coming from a walk from freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) with bases loaded.

Junior Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) struck the spark for the Lightning in the fourth, firing a double to left field before an RBI-single from senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) brought her home for a second Lightning run.

Two more runs came in the fifth following a double for an RBI from senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) and a fielder's choice brought sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) home for the Lightning to trail 5-4.

Felician furthered their lead to 7-4 with a two-RBI double from Alexis Velotta in the seventh, before the Lightning tallied a final run off a walk from Safin with bases loaded.

Setting finished with three hits and one RBI, and Makin and freshman Kaitlyn Jagielski (Imperial, PA) had two hits each for GBC (23-13, 3-5 CACC).

Velotta closed 4-for-5 with three RBI, and Chierchia had two hits and two RBI for Felician (18-11, 6-2 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom travel to Bensalem, PA on Tuesday for a 2:00 pm doubleheader against Holy Family.
