Softball Completes Doubleheader Sweep Over Washington Adventist

Goldey-Beacom faced returning opponent Washington Adventist, gaining two more victories, 10-5 and 7-5, at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Washington Adventist opened game one with an early run but the Lightning rallied with three runs off a double from freshman Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN), a sacrifice play from fellow freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), and a wild pitch allowing senior Chrissy Jordan(Pasadena, MD) to reach home plate.

The Lightning tallied another four runs over the second and third innings for a 7-1 lead. A triple from senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) sparked the run, with two errors from Washington Adventist to assist the Lightning, before Setting connected for a two RBI single up the middle.

Five hits over the next two innings gave Washington Adventist a further four runs to trail 7-5.

But the Lightning were not done. Sophomore Bri Snover (Claymont), and freshmen Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ), Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ), and Simpson each ripped singles to drive in three final runs and solidify the win.

Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Setting closed with two hits apiece, and Simpson had one hits and three RBI. Junior Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) had four strikeouts over five innings in the win, with sophomore Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) striking out four in two innings in the save.

Sophia Del Bosque and Infinity Chacon had two hits apiece, and Chacon had two RBI.

Game two showed a tighter contest, but the Lightning remained triumphant. A single by freshman Kaitlyn Jagielski (Imprerial, PA) opened the scoring for the Lightning, who closed the first inning with a 4-0 lead.

Washington Adventist brought in two runs off a triple from Annabelle Estrada.

Scott fired a double to right center to bring in fellow freshman Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ) to further the Lightning lead to 5-2.

Despite two runs from Washington Adventist off a two-RBI single, Jagielski and Simpson, who both had singles to left center, scored on a run-scoring groundout by Jordan.

Washington Adventist attempted to break the Lightning's lead with a run off a single from Del Bosque, but that is where their runs ended. Junior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) connected for a one-RBI single to tally a final Lightning run and secure the 7-5 win.

Jagielski had three hits and one RBI, with five other players adding a hit each. Freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) recorded the win, striking out four over four 4.2 innings. McLane notched her second save of the day and fourth of the season for GBC (19-7).

Estrada and Allendria Russell had two hits and two RBI apiece for Washington Adventist (4-11).

Goldey-Beacom host Queens (NY) on Thursday in a 2:00 pm doubleheader as part of Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day.
