Softball Sees a Split at Bowie State

Goldey-Beacom again continued solid play in gaining a split against Bowie State, falling in game one 10-2 and before a thrilling 7-6 victory in game two in Bowie, MD.

Bowie State was the first to tally a run in game one, off a single from Akirra Pullen to bring home Kayla Evans.

The Lightning took the lead right back after senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) was walked and back-to-back singles by junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) and senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) drove Jordan in. The Lightning were assisted by the Bulldogs to a second run in the fourth with a passed ball that allowed freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) to reach home plate.

Despite the lead, the energy shifted to the Bulldogs, who went on to rally for nine runs with five hits over the final two innings to end things via the run rule.

Setting finished with a hit and one RBI, assisted by Makin, freshman Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN), and junior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) who all totaled a hit apiece.

Pullen closed with two hits and two RBI and Trinity Mizelle added two hits.

GBC (17-7) showed solid play in the game two, taking an early 6-0 lead over the first two innings off a two-run single by junior Kelly Forrest (Wilmington, DE), an RBI single by sophomore Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE), and a grounded out RBI from Setting.

Over the next three innings, Bowie State (13-9) rallied back for six runs to tie up the score, totaling five hits.

Sophomore Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) opened the sixth inning connecting on a single to give a Lightning player on base. She then stole second to be in scoring position for Davis, who fired a single to left field to bring home Snover.

Jordan and Davis finished with two hits and one RBI each, making Davis the 30th player in school history to reach 100 hits. Simpson also notched two hits.

Junior Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) got the win tossing 2 2/3 innings and allowing just two unearned runs.  McLane started and then came back in during the seventh inning to get her second save of the year.

Pullen had two hits, with seven other players getting one hit each.

Goldey-Beacom host Washington Adventist on Tuesday in a 2:00 pm doubleheader at the Jackson Complex.
