Softball Completes Two-Game Sweep Of Lincoln (PA)

Goldey-Beacom rolled over Lincoln (PA) in a thrilling 12-1 game-one win and another 7-3 triumph in game two at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning struck early, with a 7-0 lead after two innings off singles from freshmen Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) and Kaitlyn Jagielski (Imperial, PA), junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) and a single and triple from sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ).

A sacrifice fly from Lowry in the third drove in senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) for another run, before the Lions notched a run, off a single by Tia Brown.

Four runs were tallied in the sixth by the Lightning, beginning with a two-run homer from Simpson, her second of the season. Setting and sophomore Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) drove in two runs off a sacrifice bunt and a double to center field for a 12-1 win.

Simpson led the way, going 4-for-4 with four RBI, Lowry amassed two hits and three RBI and Makin notched two hits. Freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) closed with the win, striking out four over three innings.

Irlynn Richardson recorded two hits, with Brown finishing with one hit and one RBI.

Game two saw the Lightning start on the front foot, scoring a run in the second from junior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) off a single by freshman Rayna Pelcak Laurel Springs, NJ).

The Lions were held to just three at-bats with three strikeouts in the second, before the Lightning tallied a further three runs. Lowry and Simpson picked up right where they left off, connecting for a single each, joined by a single by Monzo.

The Lightning were not finished, with another single by Pelcak to further the Lightning lead to 5-2. A costly error by the Lions gave the Lightning another run before a huge triple by freshman Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ) drove in fellow freshman Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ).

The Lions scored one final run by Richardson for a 7-3 win in favor of the Lightning.

Monzo and Pelcak finished with three hits, with Pelcak also with two RBI, and Lowry had two hits. Sophomore Abby Husser (Bethlehem, PA) recorded the win with five strikeouts over six innings.
