Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 76-69 Loss at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom looked to widen its margin for a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, but fell into a tie for the last berth with a 76-69 loss at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom made a statement at the end of the first half, closing on a 13-6 run in the last 5 1/2 minutes to open a 35-34 lead.  Seniors Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) and Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) netted four points apiece in that span.

Harrison closed the half with 14 points and Izumi added six for the Lightning, who held the Lions to just 38 percent shooting (14-of-37) and 3-of-15 from three-point range.

The game remained tight into the fourth quarter, when senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) canned a 3-pointer with 6:11 remaining to give the Lightning a 55-53 lead.  But the Lions scored the next nine points, five of which came from A'nya Harper that ended with an old-fashioned three-point play with 2:42 left for a 62-55 lead.

GBC then went on a 6-2 run in just under a minute, ended on a 3-pointer from freshman Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) for a 64-61 deficit with 1:33 to go.

Georgian Court struck back, getting a layup from Jariah Patterson with 1:24 remaining and two free throws from Tian Addison with 67 seconds left for a 68-61 game.

Harrison converted one free throw with 55 seconds to go for a 68-62 contest.  However, Paula Perez' layup 14 seconds later gave the home side an eight-point cushion and all but ended things with the Lions gaining a split of the season series.

The Lightning could not take advantage of a great game from Harrison, who poured in a career-best 27 points to go with nine rebounds.  It was the sixth time this season she netted at least 20 points.

Speaks poured in nine points with junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) adding seven points, 10 rebounds and a career-best five blocks.  Freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) netted seven points.

The Lions saw all five starters score in double figures and won despite shooting 39 percent (28-of-71) from the floor and seeing two players foul out.  Addison had 15 points and 10 assists, A'Nyah Barker notched 15 points and eight rebounds, Harper recorded 14 and eight with Perez and Patterson getting 11 points apiece.

Goldey-Beacom (9-14, 6-7 CACC) falls into a tie with Georgian Court (8-11, 6-7) for the fourth and final spot from the South Division in the CACC Tournament.  Each team has four league games remaining.
