Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Grabs Sole Possession of Second Place with an 89-66 Win at Georgian Court

Juniors Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) and Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) each put on scoring clinics and helped Goldey-Beacom gain second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division by itself with an 89-66 victory at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

The first half belonged to Centeno, who at times looked like the only player on the court and seemingly could do no wrong.  He closed the half with 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with three 3-pointers in helping the Lightning gain a 42-40 lead.

Thomas poured in eight points as well for GBC, which shot 41 percent (14-of-34) from the floor with six 3-pointers.

With all of the attention on Centeno, his teammates took over during a 14-0 run in just under 3 1/2 minutes that gave the Lightning a 67-49 lead with 11:25 left.  Thomas continued to be a spark plug with seven points and freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) had an old-fashioned three-point play.

Thomas deserves more than his share of the credit for the Lightning's play in the second half.  He closed the half with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting for GBC, which shot 49 percent (18-of-37) from the field with six 3-pointers.

When the dust finally settled, Centeno finished with a career-high 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting and was 9-for-11 from the foul line.  Thomas equaled his season best with 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting and established a new career high with seven 3-pointers.

Marsh, this week named a fifth time as the league's Rookie of the Week, closed with 12 points and 18 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season.

Goldey-Beacom matched its season high with 12 three-pointers and shot 45 percent (32-of-71) from the field.

Cameron Edmonds poured in 19 points and Jelani Jackson added 16 points for the Lions (10-13, 6-7 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (10-13, 7-6) has a one-game lead over Georgian Court, Wilmington (6-7) and Chestnut Hill (6-7) for second place and a home quarterfinal game in the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Bloomfield for a 3:00 pm contest.  This will take place as part of the College's "Hoop It Up" alumni gathering.  For more information or if you wish to attend, please contact the alumni office at alumni@gbc.edu.
