Women’s Basketball Dominates the Second Half in a 70-54 Victory at Felician

Goldey-Beacom in the second half ran away and hid in gaining control of its conference-tournament fate with a 70-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph at Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom began to take charge with a 29-6 run bridging the final two quarters, opening a 59-40 lead with 6:30 remaining.  The offense did its part by shooting 12-of-23 from the floor, but the defense was more than up to the task by holding Felician to just 2-of-25 from the field and 1-of-11 from three-point range.

Senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored nine points in that time with freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE), the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, adding eight.

Briana Lee hit a 3-pointer with 4:39 left to get the Golden Falcons within 61-47.  But the Lightning put away things with Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) making two free throws with 3:48 remaining and fellow senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) hitting a layup with 3:07 to go for a 65-47 margin.

Goldey-Beacom in the second half outscored Felician 40-20 by shooting 48 percent (15-of-31) from the field and limiting the home side to a mere 19 percent (7-of-37).  Ciszkowski ended the half with 11 points and Harrison added nine for the Lightning, who outscored the Golden Falcons 24-6 in the third quarter.

Harrison scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds and Ciszkowski added 16 points with three 3-pointers.  Harrison moved into eighth place on the school's all-time list with 438 career field goals and Ciszkowski now has 54 three-pointers, tied for 10th on the program's single-season list.

Speaks ended with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals, moving her into sixth in team history with 141 career steals.  Weikert and senior Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) netted eight points apiece, leading Goldey-Beacom to its ninth victory in the last 10 meetings with Felician.

Lee poured in 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go with 12 rebounds and five steals for the Golden Falcons (8-11, 5-7 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (9-13, 6-6) now has a one-game lead over Georgian Court (5-7) for fourth place in the CACC South Division and the final spot in the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom in the second quarter used a 14-6 run to forge a 30-30 tie with 1:45 remaining.  Harrison continued her strong play with six points in that span.

Harrison closed the half with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting and five rebounds as Goldey-Beacom trailed, 34-30.
