Men’s Basketball Moves Into Second-Place Tie With 86-76 Win at Felician

Goldey-Beacom grabbed the reins in the second half and a share of second place in the CACC South Division with an 86-76 triumph at Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom, which led by as many as seven points in the first half, saw Felician end the half on a 17-8 run over the last 7:20.  Dieker Padrino scored six points in that span to help the Golden Falcons, who shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the floor in the opening stanza, open a 43-33 lead.

The Lightning in the second half came out firing, going on a 19-5 run over the first five minutes to grab a 52-48 lead.  Junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ), picked this week to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, scored 12 points in that time to help his squad go 7-of-7 from the floor with three 3-pointers.

Felician crawled within 64-63 thanks to a 10-7 run, capped by Etnik Peci's jumper with 8:49 remaining.  Peci closed the run with four points.

However, Goldey-Beacom finally took control with a 16-3 spurt over the next 4 1/2 minutes for an 80-66 lead with 3:30 to go.  Six different players for the Lightning scored in that time with freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ), the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, scoring four points and sophomore Trey Lewis (Herndon, VA) ending it with a 3-pointer.

Centeno once again had a solid game, matching his career high with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go with four 3-pointers.  Marsh closed with 20 points and 12 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season to go with shooting 13-for-14 from the foul line.  Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) netted 22 points and six 3-pointers with fellow junior Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) adding 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Anas Amos poured in 19 points, Padrino netted 13, Jamling Lama scored 12 with Peci and Ebuka Nnagbo adding 10 apiece for Felician (5-16, 1-11 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (9-13, 6-6 CACC) now is in a three-way tie with Georgian Court (6-6) and Wilmington (6-6) for second place in the CACC South Division.  The top four teams in each of the two divisions go to the conference tournament and the top two in each division get a home quarterfinal game.

Goldey-Beacom ends its three-game road trip next Wednesday with a huge CACC South Division game at Georgian Court.  Game time is at 8:00 pm, which follows the 6:00 pm contest between the same schools.
