Softball Gains a Split with Saint Rose



Goldey-Beacom continues to show impressive play, gaining a split from Saint Rose, winning the first game 5-0 before rallying back to fall 7-5 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Game one was began strong by GBC's (7-3) Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE), who pitched a no-hitter until the sixth inning, opening the first two innings with six strikeouts.
 
Runs began in the first for the Lightning off a double to left center by freshman Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) to drive in junior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE). A single by junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ), followed by a walk by freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), and another single from junior Abby Husser (Bethlehem, PA) added two additional runs to the board for the Lightning for a 3-0 lead.
 
The Lightning drove in two final runs in the sixth inning with bases loaded and sacrifice plays by sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Makin to move runners.  
 
McLane (3-0) finished the game giving up just one hit with 10 strikeouts in seven innings pitched. She now stands at 94 career strikeouts. Scott closed with three hits and Makin notched one hit and two RBIs in the win.  
 
Game two brought exciting play despite the loss. A 4-0 lead by the Golden Knights in the third was cut into with a sacrifice bunt from Lowry to bring in Davis.
 
The Lightning gave up two more runs in the sixth for a 7-1 Golden Knights lead, but they were not out. The 7th inning brought some exciting plays for the Lightning who rallied for four runs in attempt at the triumph. Two wild pitches placed freshman Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor Creek, NJ)at third for Davis to drive in off a single. With one out, Lowry connected for a two-run double involving Davis and Bri Snover (Claymont, DE). A final single from junior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) to bring in Lowry.
 
Davis finished with two runs and two hits, with Lowry closing with one hit and three RBIs. Rising Sun, MD native Alesia Doctor (0-3) notched four strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
 
Goldey-Beacom travel to Lincoln University, PA on Wednesday for a 1:30pm doubleheader against Lincoln (PA).
