Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Shows Strong Play in 70-52 Loss at No. 10 Jefferson

In a game nowhere near indicative of the final score, Goldey-Beacom built a double-digit halftime lead against 10th-ranked Jefferson before a tough second half in the squad's 70-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the first half stunned Jefferson to the tune of a 31-21 halftime lead, limiting the home side to 27 percent shooting (8-of-30) and forcing it into 11 turnovers.

The offense also was on point in shooting 48 percent (12-of-25) from the field with three 3-pointers.  Senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) simply was awesome in the half with 11 points and freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) added seven.

Unfortunately, the Rams came out of the locker room strong.  They outscored the Lightning 20-5 in the third quarter by shooting 40 percent (8-of-20) from the field and holding the visitors to just 1-of-10 for a 41-36 lead.  Haley Meinel poured in seven points in that time for Jefferson with Cassie Murphy adding six.

The fourth quarter was not much better with Jefferson outscoring GBC, 29-16, by shooting 75 percent (12-of-16) from the field.  Meinel could not be stopped in netting 10 points with Murphy and Emily Keehfuss getting six apiece.

Senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) ended with 12 points and eight rebounds, Speaks scored 11 points with Ciszkowski adding 10 for the Lightning (10-16, 7-9 CACC).  Ciszkowski drilled two 3-pointers and now has 65 on the season, moving into a tie with Lexi Bruno (2014-15) and Mikaila Stefanski (2015-16) for the third-best single-season mark in program history.

Meinel ended with 20 points, Murphy scored 14 and Morgan Robinson just missed a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for Jefferson (24-3, 15-1).

Goldey-Beacom ends the regular season Saturday at Wilmington.  Please note the game time in Newark is at 4:00 pm.
