Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Ends its Season with 52-47 Loss at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom looked to send its six seniors out on a high note and despite everyone's strong play, the squad was handed a 52-47 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Wilmington in Newark, DE.

Goldey-Beacom ended the first half by scoring the last 10 points over 3 1/2 minutes to grab an 18-15 lead.  Great defensive pressure was the key as Wilmington committed five turnovers in that span and only attempted three shots.

Senior Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) scored six points in the first half and netted three in the half-ending run.

Wilmington eventually took over by scoring eight straight points to gain a 47-39 lead with 49 seconds left.  Amber Washington ended it by making two free throws as part of her 10-for-12 day from the line, including 7-for-8 in the fourth quarter.

Gardner closed with 12 points, junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) had 11 and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) added nine points for the Lightning (10-17, 7-10 CACC).

Fatou Ndao scored 16 points, Washington netted 13 with Jade Roberts adding 12 and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats (3-25, 2-15).

This marks the final game for Goldey-Beacom's six seniors that include Harrison, Gardner, Sarah Round (Northampton, England), Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA), Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) and Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan).  This group battled through Covid and injuries to contribute for many of them five solid years with the program.  They also provided great academic success with many of them making the CACC Academic Honor Roll and being tabbed College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

Harrison ends 11th in team history with 1,175 points, fifth with 102 blocks, sixth with 463 field goals and seventh with 648 rebounds.  Speaks closes 14th with 849 points and sixth with 148 steals.  Weikert finishes ninth with 127 steals and 10th with 190 assists.
