Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt 82-73 Loss at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom in the first half rode the scorching-hot play of junior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY), but in the second half fell victim to the prolific scorers from Jefferson in an 82-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Philadelphia, PA.

The first half belonged to Thomas, who could do whatever whenever.  He poured in 21 points that included him shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-8 from three-point range.

Freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) scored eight points for the Lightning, who could not overcome 13 points from Erik Timko and trailed 40-35 at the break.

The Lightning were hanging around a majority of the second half, closing to 60-52 with 10:23 remaining when Marsh converted a layup.  However, the Rams went on an 8-2 run over the next 3 1/2 minutes for a 68-54 margin with 6:26 left thanks to Antonin Kemkeng's four points.

Thomas hit twice from the stripe with 6:05 to go and sophomore Trey Lewis (Herndon, VA) added a 3-pointer with 5:35 left to get GBC within 68-59.  But Timko, the league's leading scorer, did his thing by drilling a 3-pointer with 5:15 to play for a 71-59 contest.

Marsh ended as the Lightning's leading scorer, closing with 27 points on 13-of-22 shooting and nine rebounds.  Thomas netted 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting with six 3-pointers and freshman Omari Banks (Middletown, DE) added 11 points.

Timko poured in 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, Ahmed Barba-Bey scored 15, Kemkeng had 12 and eight rebounds, Hakim Byrd scored 12 points and Bismark Nsiah added 10 for the Rams (15-11, 11-5 CACC), who shot 60 percent (18-of-30) from the field in the second half and 58 percent (34-of-59) overall.

Goldey-Beacom (10-17, 7-9) goes into the final day of the regular season tied with Wilmington (7-9) and Georgian Court (7-9) for third place in the CACC South Division.  Only two of these teams will make it to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is at Wilmington for a 6:00 pm contest and Georgian Court is at Chestnut Hill for a 7:00 pm game.
