Softball Splits Two from Lock Haven

Goldey-Beacom again continued its solid play in gaining a split from Lock Haven, dropping a tough 2-1 contest in nine innings before a 6-2 triumph at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

GBC (6-2) in game one got its run when sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) scored in the third inning on a double steal that also involved junior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE).  But Lock Haven tied it in the sixth on Delaney Good's RBI single and took the lead in the ninth when Good had an RBI groundout.

Sophomore Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) pitched great in striking out five over 6 1/3 innings allowing just one run and six hits.  She, Lowry and Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) had the Lightning's hits.

Game two was a more joyous occasion, especially when senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) rapped a two-run double in the second for a 2-0 GBC lead.  After Morgan Karasek homered in the fifth to bring Lock Haven within 2-1, Lowry rapped an RBI double to restore the two-run margin.

Senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) highlighted the three-run sixth inning with a two-run single and Davis added a run-scoring single for a 6-1 margin.

Wilmington, DE sophomore Cat Nelson (2-0) provided more pitching heroics, striking out three over five innings in allowing just one run and five hits.  Freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) got the save, yielding just a run and two hits over two innings to secure the Lightning's first win over the Bald Eagles in 12 tries.

Goldey-Beacom does not play again until Saturday in a noon doubleheader at home against Saint Rose.
