Women’s Basketball Handed 85-78 Senior-Day Loss by Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom looked to get a big victory on Senior Day, but was handed an 85-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Things were going the Lightning's way when they scored eight straight points bridging the final two quarters, capped by senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) drilling a 3-pointer with 9:08 remaining for a 60-60 tie.

But the Griffins proceeded to go on a 16-8 run over the next six minutes to open a 76-68 lead with 2:49 left.  Abbey Spratt scored eight points in that time and Bri Rider ended it with a jumper.

Junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) then scored the game's next six points in getting GBC within 76-74 with 1:49 remaining.  But Chestnut Hill held on, thanks to Kaitlyn Carter's layup with 1:28 to go for a four-point game and her 3-pointer with 50 seconds left for an 81-74 contest.

Harrison had another strong game with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting and five rebounds.  Seniors Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) and Jhordan Gardner (Swedesboro, NJ) poured in 14 points apiece with Stevens and freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) getting 11 apiece.

Spratt poured in 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting, Emily Chmiel had 16 and 10 rebounds with Morgan Orloski adding 13 points for the Griffins (17-9, 12-4 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (10-15, 7-8) now sits fifth in the CACC South Division, one-half game behind Georgian Court (8-8) for the division's final conference-tournament spot.

The day marked the final home game for the program's six seniors who include Speaks, Gardner, Harrison, Sarah Round (Northampton, England), Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) and Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan).

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday visits No. 12 Jefferson for a 6:00 pm game.  The men's contest between the same schools begins at 8:00 pm.
