Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Opens Carolina Trip With Sweep of Le Moyne

Goldey-Beacom received exceptional overall play in starting its North Carolina trip with victories over Le Moyne, 4-3 and 5-1, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC.

The first 4 1/2 innings of game one featured a pitchers duel in which senior Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) more than did his part.  He struck out five during that stretch and twice only had to face three batters in an inning.

Goldey-Beacom in the fifth inning put up the game's first crooked number.  Sophomore Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) stepped up in a big two-out spot with the bases loaded and drove them all home with a double for a 3-0 lead.

The Dolphins struck back in the top of the sixth.  Brody Keneston lined a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Lightning (3-0) would not be upset for long as senior Johnny Kampes (Colora, MD) changed things in the last of the frame.  He led off the sixth with a home run to left field for his seventh career long ball.

Wilmington, DE sophomore Alex Hinton (1-0) made it stand, striking out four over 3 2/3 scoreless innings and permitting just four hits for the win.  Kolmansberger ended with two hits.

Drew Carroll, Andrew Roden, Nick Nevins and Wyatt Patchett all recorded two hits apiece for Le Moyne.

The Lightning in game two held a 1-0 lead entering the top of the fifth, when it put up four more runs.  Junior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) continued his strong start with a three-run double and scored when senior Marlon Lindsey Jr. (Lafayette Hill, PA) sacrificed him home.

That was plenty of support for Swoyersford, PA junior Tommy Federici (1-0), who struck out five over 4 2/3 innings in allowing just an unearned run and two hits.  Miller closed with three hits, tying him with sophomore Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) for the early lead with six on the year.

Jason Boule amassed two hits for Le Moyne (0-2) and Max Parker (0-1) struck out six over five innings.

Le Moyne is ranked seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Preseason Poll.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday faces Mercy for an 11:00 am game, also in Cary, NC.
