Softball Rolls to Doubleheader Sweep of Washington Adventist

Goldey-Beacom made quick work of Washington Adventist on a pair of occasions, notching a 10-2 victory in game one before a 13-1 triumph in the nightcap at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning, who put up crooked numbers in all nine innings of their at-bats, in game one got three in the first courtesy of RBI from freshman Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) and sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) for a 3-0 lead.  Senior Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) got a run-scoring double in the second and Lowry added an RBI triple in the third for a 5-1 contest.

A four-spot in the last of the fourth made it 9-1.  Freshman Marah Schotz (Lockport, NY) ripped a two-run double, Makin contributed an RBI double and scored on a fielder's choice.

An infield single from sophomore Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) ended things via the run rule.

Makin and Lowry had two hits and two RBI apiece with junior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) getting two hits.  Jordan struck out nine over four innings, allowing one run and two hits.

Infinity Chacon had two RBI and Jasmine Hernandez allowed 10 runs – nine earned – and 11 hits over four innings.

GBC (5-1) in the second game again plated three in the first to grab the lead.  Sophomore Kelly Forrest (Wilmington, DE) lined an RBI single, Davis scored on a wild pitch and junior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) added a run-scoring groundout.

The Lightning punctuated things with seven runs in the fourth for the final.  Kaitlyn Jagielski (Imperial, PA) lined a two-run double and fellow freshman Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) lowered the curtain with a three-run double.

Forrest and senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) notched two hits apiece for the Lightning.  Sophomore Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, NJ) struck out five over four innings, permitting one run and five hits.

Dreyana Hinton had an RBI single and Savannah Bayles gave up 13 runs – 11 earned – and nine hits over three innings for the Shock (0-2).

Goldey-Beacom on Friday is scheduled to host Lock Haven for a 1:30 pm doubleheader.
