Softball Gain Two-Game Sweep over Lincoln (PA)



Goldey-Beacom upended Lincoln (PA) in an exciting 12-2 game-one triumph and another 5-2 win in game two at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Goldey-Beacom jumped to a seven-run lead in the first inning, off singles from Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE), Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) and Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) to go with a triple from Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD).
 
A quick three outs for the Lightning put them back at the plate, and a second hit by Jordan in the second inning drove in Davis for another score, 8-0.
 
Lincoln (PA) put up put up two runs in the third of hits from Kevyn Jones and Tia Brown to score Irlynn Richardson and Brown, 8-2.
 
It was not enough as Goldey-Beacom struck again in the third. Sophomore Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) grounded out to third, moving Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) to second. Senior Carly Setting (Newark, DE) drove in Snover off a single up the middle, furthering the lead to 9-2.  
 
Two strikeouts by Abby Husser (Bethlethem, PA) and a ground out kept the Lions to just three at bats in the fourth, electrifying the Lightning. The Lightning totaled two final runs in the fourth, with the play of the game came from Simpson, who hit a huge two RBI home run to give the Lightning a final 12-2 triumph.
 
Simpson amassed two hits and three RBI with Jordan getting two hits and two RBI. Husser closed with the win, striking out four over five innings.
 
Richardson rapped two hits, with Jones and Brown amassing one hit apiece.
 
Game two started in favor of the Lions, after Brown reached on a dropped fly and was drive in by Cailyn Dove off a single to center field.
 
Goldey-Beacom was not down and out. Singles from Lowry and Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) placed two on base with one out. A pass ball advanced the runners one more base over. Freshman Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) grounded out to third, allowing Lowry to score. Setting continued where she left off, landing a single to drive in Scott. A final single by Davis and a pass ball from the Lions led to an unearned run by Setting to give the Lightning a 3-1 lead.
 
Another single from the Lions by Jones drove in Richardson to give them another run, 3-2. With an attempt to tie up the game off a single from Kailee Richmond, the ball found the glove of Lowry, who launched the ball to home plate to throw out the tying run.
 
An error at second base put Nicole Makin on base in the fifth inning. Simpson doubled to center field, bringing in pinch-runner Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ), with a final hit from pinch-hitter Kelly Forrest (Wilmington, DE) scored Simpson for a 5-2 win.

Davis added three more hits with Setting getting two. Cat Nelson (Wilmington, DE) notched four strikeouts over five innings, achieving the win. Freshman Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) closed with five strikeouts in just two innings to give her the save.
 
Richmond had two hits with RBIs from Jones and Dove.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home on Wednesday against Washington Adventist at the Jackson Complex for a doubleheader. The first pitch is at 2:00 pm.
