Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls, 66-54, at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom was in it late against one of the elite from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, but was handed a 66-54 loss at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom late in the first half showed its offensive mettle, ending the half with an 11-3 run over seven minutes in closing to 27-23 at the break.  Senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored seven of her 13 first-half points in that time for the Lightning, who held the Tigers to just 1-of-12 shooting during that span.

The Lightning, who now have held their last five opponents to under 40 percent shooting, forced the Tigers to hit for just 2-of-17 in the second period.

Holy Family in the third quarter rattled off the first eight points for a 35-23 lead with 7:42 left and held a 45-37 cushion at period's end.  Carolyn Prevost was on fire with six points and Lindsay Tretter added five.

The fourth quarter saw the Lightning continue to hang around, especially when senior Lexi Weikert (Harrisburg, PA) converted an old-fashioned three-point play in bringing her squad to a 56-48 deficit with 2:31 remaining.

But Holy Family took over from there.  Ava Morrow canned two free throws with 1:17 to play for a 58-48 game and added a layup with 55 seconds to go for a 12-point margin.

Harrison had 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds and Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE), the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, added eight points for the Lightning (8-13, 5-6 CACC).  Senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) and junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) poured in six points apiece, moving Speaks into 15th in program history with 784 career points.

Weikert closed with five steals and now has 122 career, moving her into 10th place on the school's all-time list.

Moe Moore had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Prevost scored 14 points, Skyler Searfoss netted 13 with Morrow adding 10 and nine rebounds for the Tigers (16-7, 10-2), who won despite shooting just 33 percent (21-of-63) from the field and 3-of-20 from three-point range.

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday visits Felician for a 1:00 pm game.  The men's contest between the same schools begins at 3:30 pm.
