Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Notches 62-50 Triumph at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom took care of business in the second half and made it four victories in its last seven outings with a 62-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

The latter part of the opening half belonged to Goldey-Beacom, which dominated play with a 19-5 run in just under seven minutes for a 34-20 lead with 2:37 remaining.  Freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) netted seven points in that time.

The Lightning went into the locker room with a 34-26 lead, shooting 44 percent (12-of-27) from the floor and holding the Tigers to just 30 percent (7-of-23).  Marsh, named the CACC Rookie of the Week for a fourth time, finished the half with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and junior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) added 10 points to go with five rebounds.

GBC asserted itself even more with a 14-4 run in just under seven minutes to open a 52-34 cushion with 10:13 remaining.  Sophomore Trey Lewis (Herndon, VA) and sophomore Cardin Joubert (Naples, FL) each canned a 3-pointer during that time and Thomas drained a trio of free throws.

The Tigers did their best in front of the home folks, scoring the next 10 points in closing to 52-44 with 5:49 to go.  Vernon Johnson poured in five points and Aamir Hurst added three.

But Goldey-Beacom (8-13, 5-6 CACC) scored the next six points to ice things.  Lewis hit a pair of free throws with 4:13 left, Marsh made a layup with 3:47 to go and junior Mekhi Collins (Medford, MA) added a layup of his own with 2:35 remaining for a 58-44 margin.

Marsh continued his stupendous play, scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go with eight rebounds.  It is the 10th time this season he has netted at least 20 points and he is averaging 20.2 points over his last 10 contests.

Thomas also had a game, ending with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three 3-pointers.  It is his ninth game scoring in double figures and he is averaging 14.5 points over his last four contests.

Hurst closed with 14 points and Johnson added nine for the Tigers (10-13, 3-9).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is back on the road to visit Felician.  Game time is at 3:30 pm, which follows the women's contest between the same schools.
