Women's Basketball Closes Trip North with 88-67 Loss to American International



Goldey-Beacom closed its trip north, being dealt an 88-67 loss against American International in Springfield, MA.
 
The first half provided relatively equal play, closing 42-32 in favor of American International by having finished the half on a 10-5 scoring run. For the Lightning, junior Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) and sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) shot 7-from-10 together to combine for 19 points, with freshman Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) adding seven.
 
The second half began with a 19-9 American International scoring run which gave it a 61-41 lead. The Yellow Jackets furthered their lead, outscoring the Lightning 35-19 in the third quarter.
 
The Lightning saw a spark in the fourth quarter, with junior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) opening an 11-3 scoring run which spanned the first six minutes of the quarter, to help them win the quarter 16-11. McCarron closed the half with nine points on 100-percent shooting.  
 
Yoder led with 14 points, Ciszkowski closed with 11 and Varela added 10 for GBC (1-9).
 
Briana Lee had 16 points and seven rebounds, Kayla Robinson recorded 15 points, five assists, and five steals, Nora Young finished with 13 points, Tia-Marie Martinez had 11 and six assists with Ruzgar Christina Boyle and Heaven Morris adding 10 points apiece for American International (7-1).
 
Goldey-Beacom travels to Millersville, PA on Thursday to face Millersville at 6:00 pm.
