Basketball Gets Two More Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

11/20/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom freshman Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) continued her strong start in being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week and senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) was picked to the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Yoder averaged 15.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over two games, shooting 10-for-13 from the foul line.  She poured in 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting with nine rebounds and went 7-for-9 from the line Saturday against Indiana (PA).

Picked last week to the league's Weekly Honor Roll, Yoder has been more than impressive in giving the Lightning a huge scoring boost.  Already she is 10th in the league with 13.5 points per game, 12th with six 3-pointers and has scored in double figures three times over the squad's four contests.

Derry again did his thing, averaging 18.7 points and 3.3 rebounds over three games to go with eight 3-pointers, 12 assists, nine steals and going 16-for-19 from the line.  He poured in 28 points on 8-of-17 shooting to go with six assists Sunday in Goldey-Beacom's tough 87-84 loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas.  That was after Derry got 21 points, five steals and four assists Saturday in his squad's 88-66 win Saturday over Mercy.

His undeniable explosiveness and excitable play has him on the verge of becoming the 12th in program history to reach 1,000 career points.  The 2022 first team All-CACC pick is 12th in team annals with 966 points, fifth with 147 three-pointers and eighth with 124 steals.

Both teams are in action Tuesday with the men hosting Kutztown at 6:00 pm and the women visiting Shippensburg at 7:00 pm.
