Women’s Basketball Handed 67-56 Loss by Lincoln (PA)



Goldey-Beacom could not capitalize on a strong first half and succumbed to Lincoln (PA), 67-56, at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning owned a 34-32 halftime lead, showing great team play and determination that forced the Lions to only shoot 44 percent (14-of-32) from the floor.  Senior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) closed the half with nine points and four rebounds, Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) netted eight points and fellow sophomore Jenissa Varela (Ledyard, CT) added seven.
 
However, Lincoln went on a 20-7 tear in the third quarter to gain a 52-41 lead by shooting 44 percent (8-of-18) from the floor and holding GBC to 1-of-11.  Alaila Walker poured in nine points with Taylor Brown and Jaleesa Lanier adding four apiece.
 
Ciszkowski closed with 16 points, Varela netted a career-best 14 with Stevens getting 10 and 11 rebounds for her third career double-double.
 
Lanier was all over the place with nine points and six steals, Walker poured in nine points, Anyssa Fields recorded eight and nine rebounds with D'Ayzha Atkinson adding eight and seven for the Lions (2-0).
 
Goldey-Beacom (0-3) is home Saturday against Indiana (PA), beginning at 5:00 pm.
