Men’s Basketball Drops Home Opener, 83-63, to Lock Haven



Goldey-Beacom did its best to try and overcome an early deficit, but it was dealt an 83-63 loss by Lock Haven in its home opener at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Bald Eagles came out flying from the jump, opening a 22-8 lead in the first 11 1/2 minutes by shooting 8-of-19 from the field with three 3-pointers and holding the Lightning to 3-of-12.  Justice Shoats scored eight points in that time with Dyllon Scott adding four.
 
Lock Haven opened a 40-27 halftime lead by shooting 44 percent (16-of-36) from the field with five 3-pointers and caused 12 turnovers.  Shoats ended the half with 10 points and Collin Jones added eight.
 
The Lightning showed life in the second half by shooting 43 percent (13-of-30) from the floor and drawing even, 18-18, in rebounds.  Omari Banks (Middletown, DE) scored nine points in that time with fellow sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ), a reigning member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, adding eight.
 
Marsh closed with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and 16th career.  Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) poured in nine points, fellow senior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) scored eight and senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) added seven for GBC (1-2).
 
Shoats poured in 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting, Scott scored 21 with Jones adding 13 for Lock Haven (1-2).
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday battles Mercy in a neutral-site game, beginning at 3:30 pm in Sparkill, NY.
