Women’s Basketball Handed 85-57 Loss by New Haven

Goldey-Beacom did its best to hang around against a dominant New Haven squad, but was handed an 85-57 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Chargers (2-0) asserted themselves in the first quarter by shooting 53 percent (10-of-19) from the floor and gaining a 25-16 lead, thanks to 10 points from Lindsay Hogan.  New Haven in the second saw Nayeli Dowding pour in seven points as the team shot 44 percent (7-of-16) from the field to open a 48-29 halftime lead.

Goldey-Beacom (0-2) this season is fielding a lineup with seven newcomers and continued to show improvement through preseason and the first weekend of the regular campaign.

Freshman Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) shook off foul trouble to score 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) added 11 points and senior Zhuri Cannon (Columbia, MD) scored all seven of hers in the fourth quarter for the Lightning.

Hogan finished with 22 points and four 3-pointers, Aurora Deshaies had 17 points and 13 rebounds, Makaela Johnson recorded 16 points and none rebounds with Dowding adding 14 points for the Chargers, who shot 46 percent (31-of-68) from the field and canned seven 3-pointers.
