Soccer Teams Get Three Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

10/9/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) probably did not anticipate at the start of the week getting picked Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, but that honor was given to her as part of three awards from the league.

Junior Alexis Pacheco (Santo Domingo, DR) was tabbed to the league's Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll and senior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) got the same pick for Men's Soccer.

Lowry, who has excelled both at defense and midfield, was called upon in emergency relief Tuesday at Chestnut Hill and came up huge.  She notched eight saves for her first victory and shutout in Goldey-Beacom's 3-0 triumph.

Usually more adept at putting the ball in the net rather than keeping it out, Lowry over her three seasons has compiled nine goals and five assists for 23 points.  This included netting seven goals a season ago to finish ninth in the league in starting all 18 contests.

Also a member of the softball team, Lowry last year notched a 1.000 fielding percentage over 103 chances in helping Goldey-Beacom (32-23) to its best victory total in 25 years.  She enters this season tied for third in team history with 10 triples, tied for fourth with 30 stolen bases and 20th outright with a .333 batting average.

Lowry a season ago also was named to the CACC Academic Honor Roll and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams both for soccer and softball.

Pacheco closed with two goals and an assist in helping Goldey-Beacom go 1-0-1.  She scored twice Tuesday in the squad's 3-0 victory at Chestnut Hill and notched an assist Saturday in the team's 1-1 tie against Felician.

A reliable defender, Pacheco has started all 43 games she has competed over her three seasons.  She was picked last season both to the CACC Academic Honor Roll and the CSC Academic All-District team.

Coimbra ended with two goals over three games last week.  He scored Monday at Bloomsburg and then tallied Wednesday in Goldey-Beacom's 2-1 victory at Chestnut Hill.

It is the second time in the last three weeks Coimbra has made the league's Weekly Honor Roll.  He now is fourth in team history with 22 assists, sixth with 58 points and seventh with 18 goals.
