Women’s Tennis Handed 4-3 Loss by Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom saw its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against Dominican (NY) come down to the final rubber, but it was handed a 4-3 loss at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

It was a rough go for GBC in dropping the doubles point, but things ended on a high note with sophomore Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkey) and junior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) getting a 7-5 win over Bipasha Mehn and Selina Donecker.

The Lightning (2-8, 1-8 CACC) got back into the match thanks to the red-hot play of sophomore Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador), who cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at fourth singles over Vanya Tyagi. Quinonez now is 6-4 on the season.

GBC picked up two more singles wins to make it 3-3. Mova got a 0-6, 6-4, 4-1 retirement victory over Mehn at first singles and Canbaz battled to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 triumph over Angelika Amelkina at No. 2 singles.

It all came down to sixth singles and the Chargers (2-7, 2-6) prevailed with Lia Sarjveladze getting a 6-1, 6-2 win over sophomore Asli Kunduk (Izmir, Turkey).

Goldey-Beacom ends the regular season Tuesday with a home match against Jefferson, starting at 2:00 pm.
