Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt Crushing 87-84 Overtime Loss at Chestnut Hill

Freshman Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) and sophomore Tyshon Judge (Merchantville, NJ) once again played a solid game for Goldey-Beacom, but their squad could not hold a late lead in overtime and was dealt a painful 87-84 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

Judge put the Lightning in a great spot with 44 seconds left in overtime.  He drove to the goal and drew contact as he made a tough layup.  Judge then buried the free throw for the old-fashioned three-point play, giving his side an 84-83 lead.

The Griffins showed zero panic as they worked the ball up and around the floor.  This resulted in Noah Charles being open from the left corner and he buried a 3-pointer, giving his side an 86-84 cushion with 25 seconds remaining.

Now it was the Lightning's turn again and they looked to the same player again.  Judge made his way toward the basket in looking for the tie and contact, but got neither.  Adam Angwafo hauled in the missed layup and went to the line with 4.5 seconds to go.

Goldey-Beacom got the break it looked for with Angwafo clanking both free throws, but that opportunity soon would be squandered.  Trevonn Pitts hustled for a huge offensive rebound and threw the ball off a Lightning player to gain possession with 2.7 seconds remaining.

Amir Warrick got the inbounds pass and was fouled with 1.9 seconds left, missing the first free throw and making the second for an 87-84 game.  Goldey-Beacom (4-10, 1-3 CACC) had to go the length of the floor with no timeouts looking for double overtime, but Charles stole the inbound pass and drained the clock.

Marsh, named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll the last three awards periods, simply was at it again.  He finished with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting along with seven rebounds, giving him 23.7 points per game over his last three contests and 20.8 over his last nine.

Judge certainly is not to be forgotten in this, netting 16 points over just 31 minutes for his 10th double-figure outing of the campaign.  Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) scored 12 points and fellow junior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) added nine.

Warrick, who reached 1,000 career points, today netted 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting with Pitts scoring 19.  James Rider poured in 14 points and Charles added 10 for the Griffins (8-7, 3-2).

Goldey-Beacom is back on the road Saturday at Caldwell.  Game time is at 3:00 pm, which follows the 1:00 pm women's contest between the same schools.
