Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Makes it Three Out of Four With 85-54 Triumph Over Alliance

Goldey-Beacom showed great offensive play and put on the defensive clamps when it needed to, recording its third victory in the last four outings with an 85-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Alliance at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The opening quarter for the Lightning, who never trailed, was a scoring fest as they raced to a 20-13 lead by shooting 54 percent (7-of-13) from the field.  Freshman Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) continued her grasp as one of the area's top shooting by ending with five points and senior Mone Izumi (Fukuoka, Japan) added four.

The second period was more of the same, but with better defense.  Alliance was limited to just 40 percent (6-of-15) shooting in the opening quarter and shot only 23 percent (3-of-13) in the second.  GBC gained a 21-12 edge on the scoreboard for a 41-25 lead, courtesy of 10 points in the quarter from senior Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ).

That consistent play from both sides of the court continued into the second half.  The Lightning in the third quarter shot 53 percent (9-of-17) from the floor and in the fourth held Alliance to 17 percent shooting (1-of-6) with just nine points.

GBC (8-12, 5-5 CACC) ended the contest shooting 46 percent (30-of-66) from the field with eight 3-pointers and limited Alliance to only 40 percent (19-of-48), in addition to 2-of-13 from beyond the arc.

Ciszkowski, second in the league shooting .495 from three point range, closed with 17 points and three 3-pointers over 21 minutes.  She now has 49 three-pointers on the season, just five shy of the school's single-season top-10 list.

Harrison netted 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, senior Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) had 15 and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and junior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) added 10 and eight.

Raquel Cooke-Losada scored 15 points, Joselish De Pool netted 12 and Carly Bolivar added 10 for Alliance (2-14, 2-9).

Goldey-Beacom is back at it Wednesday with a visit to Holy Family.  Game time is at 6:00 pm, which precedes the 8:00 pm men's contest between the same schools.
